Terms of service
Last updated 17 May 2026.
1. Who we are
AfriRate ("we", "us") is a Statotech product that aggregates and republishes official central-bank exchange rates for six African countries. AfriRate sign-in is provided by accounts.statotec.com. The Statotech parent terms govern your underlying account; these terms cover your use of AfriRate specifically.
2. Data accuracy
We fetch rates directly from each central bank and republish them with the source attribution intact. We do not guarantee that the data is current, complete, or fit for any particular purpose — the source may delay updates, publish revisions, change format, or take their site offline without notice.
Central banks occasionally revise rates for dates already in the past. We treat the most recent published value as authoritative; previously served responses for the same date are not recalled.
Do not use AfriRate as the sole source of truth for financial transactions. Use it for research, analytics, dashboards, and monitoring. For trade settlement, regulatory filing, or compliance reporting, integrate directly with the central bank.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit traffic exceeding your tier's rate limit by rotating keys, distributing requests across accounts you control, or otherwise circumventing the limiter.
- Share API keys across separate organizations or sell access to a key — each organization needs its own account.
- Resell or mirror the API verbatim (build something with it instead). Caching at the edge for your own product is fine; rebroadcasting the raw data as a competing service is not.
- Use the API to deceive, defraud, or manipulate market participants, or to facilitate sanctioned transactions.
- Probe AfriRate for vulnerabilities, run penetration tests, or attempt to access non-public infrastructure without our written consent. If you find a security issue, email hello@statotec.com and we'll work with you in good faith.
4. Your account & API keys
You are responsible for keeping your API keys confidential. We treat any request bearing a valid key as authorized by you, and you are accountable for actions taken under your keys — including by people you knowingly or unknowingly share them with.
Revoke a key the moment you suspect it has leaked. Until revoked, traffic on that key counts against your tier limits and may accelerate any future billing tied to overage. Revocation takes effect within the cache window stated in the docs (currently a few minutes).
5. Suspension & termination
By us. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, behave abusively toward our systems or staff, or are subject to legal process. We will provide reasonable notice when feasible; emergency suspensions for active abuse may be immediate.
By you. You can stop using AfriRate at any time. Delete your account from the dashboard's Account section — your API keys are revoked immediately, identity records are purged per the privacy policy retention windows, and you can export your usage history by emailing the address in §8 before you delete.
6. Disclaimer & liability
AfriRate is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied — including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, and uninterrupted availability. We do not warrant that the service will be error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that any data is current at the moment you read it.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability to you for any claim arising from or related to these terms — whether in contract, tort, statute, or otherwise — is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or USD $50. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages (including lost profits, lost data, or business interruption) even if we have been advised of the possibility of those damages.
7. Changes
We may update these terms. The "last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. For changes that materially affect your rights — narrowing what you can do with the API, raising the liability cap on you, adding fees — we will give at least 30 days' notice via the dashboard and, where we have it, your subscription email. Continued use after the change date constitutes acceptance.
