FAQ

+What is today's USD to ETB rate?

The live USD/ETB official reference rate published by the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) is shown above. NBE updates the official rate each business day.

+Where do the birr rates come from?

Directly from the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE), the country's central bank. We mirror the NBE official reference rate exactly, with no spread applied.

+Is the Ethiopian birr pegged to the dollar?

No. Ethiopia moved to a market-based exchange-rate regime in mid-2024, so the birr now floats and the rate is set by the market rather than a fixed peg. AfriRate publishes only the official NBE reference rate.

+How do I sign in to AfriRate?

AfriRate uses a single Statotech ID — the same account that signs you into every Statotech Systems product. Click Sign In on any page; you will be sent briefly to accounts.statotec.com to enter your password, then come straight back to your AfriRate dashboard. If you do not have a Statotech ID yet, the Sign Up button creates one in about thirty seconds.

+How do I get a free AfriRate API key?

Sign up at afrirate.statotec.com/signup — this creates a Statotech ID (one account across all our products) and lands you on the AfriRate dashboard where your API key (starts with "ar_") is waiting. The free tier covers 10 requests per minute and 300 per day with no credit card. Use the key by passing it in the Authorization header: Bearer ar_xxx....

+Who builds AfriRate?

AfriRate is a product of Statotech Systems, a fintech and data-infrastructure shop focused on Southern Africa. Your Statotech ID works across every product Statotech builds, so you only need one account.
